Be kind to your body — it’s the only one you’ve got!
You never know when what you have now could be taken away from you. So enjoy it, while you can.
Don’t focus on what you don’t like — focus on everything your body can do, and everything it allows you to experience. When things go wrong, and your body changes — it’s hard, there’s no denying that.
But you’ll also be amazed at how fiercely your body will fight for you, and how much more you’ll come to appreciate the life it gives you. I’m living proof of that.
When I wrote this, I was really sick. My days revolved around managing pain, medications, and exhaustion. Thirteen hours of sleep wasn’t rest — it was survival.
I’d say goodbye to my kids in the morning, sleep most of the day, and wake just before they came home. Even brushing my teeth or getting dressed could leave me aching. I missed everything — bushwalks, laughter, family visits, holidays, bike rides, just being out there. It felt like life was on pause.
Since then, I’ve had life-saving surgery in Germany — and today, I’m living with more energy, more gratitude, and a deeper appreciation for every small thing. My body still carries the scars of that fight, but it also carries the proof that I made it through.
